The 🤷 emoji has the meaning Person Shrugging. It belongs to the category Smileys & People Emojis. It is also known as Shrug Emoji, Shrugging or Shrug. The emoji shows a person shrugging his shoulders and holding his hands next to her face. On some platforms, the hands are also in front of the face. The 🤷 Emoji is also available in male and female form. The form shown here is actually the neutral version, but if you look closely, you realize that the person is a woman. You can use 🤷 emoji if you want to say something like “I do not know how to help you” or “No idea”. A small example of understanding: Your friend asks you when tomorrow will start school, but unfortunately you have not paid attention and you also do not know it. You can write him back in response. “No Plan 🤷” The Shrug Emoji alone, however, would also be enough to show your ignorance.
The emoji is also often used as an expression for “not my problem” or “I do not know what you want from me”. A fellow student did not co-write the lecture at the university but slept instead and now wants you to send him your transcript so that he can learn. This does not happen to him for the first time and that’s why you do not want to give him your transcript. You can easily annoyed answer: “Not my problem 🤷” In addition, the shrug Emoji indicates ignorance, confusion or lack of interest in something. Incidentally, the text version is the well-known ¯ \ _ (ツ) _ / ¯ emoticon. This emoji was approved as part of Unicode 9.0 and thus in 2016, and added to Emoji 3.0 in 2016.
