On December 31, 2013, Tumblr user weedstuck released the original emoticon along with an audio clip of Tom Jones pop song “It’s Not Unusual.” In addition, on January 1, 2014, Tumblr user TheBalladofJakeTheSnake released the original GIF image of the emoticons along with an audio clip on the Brodyquest soundtrack composed and produced by Neil Cicierega. What’s special is that in less than a week, the Tumblr post received more than 89,000 notes, causing many users to call the ᕕ (ᐛ) ᕗ emoticon the “first meme of the year 2014”. The next day, the youtuber JakeWhyman released a music video in the Brodyquest style, in which the ᕕ (ᐛ) ᕗ emoticon danced in front of various backgrrounds. In the video description, JakeWhyman named the character #happygarry, which soon became the unofficial nickname of the emoticon.
